Every Surah in the order it appears in the Quran, with its Arabic name, its meaning in English, how many verses it has and whether it was revealed in Mecca or Medina. Each name links to a plain-English explanation of why that Surah was revealed and what it asks of the reader.

The Quran has 114 Surahs and 6,236 verses in the Ḥafṣ numbering used in the standard printed muṣḥaf. Verse counts differ slightly in some other recitation traditions, and a small number of Surahs are classified as Meccan by some scholars and Medinan by others.
